Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, Nigerian authorities stated on Wednesday evening. The 36-year-old was part of a serious road collision in the Lagos area on the 29th of December, a devastating event that claimed the lives of two of his team members.
The sports star had been receiving medical attention while recovering from minor injuries, representatives had said on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update online that Joshua was declared medically stable to continue his recovery at home.
“Anthony and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two friends who passed away as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the official remarked.
Those who lost their lives were identified as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. Omotoso added that the champion was filled with sorrow and deeply emotional over the loss of his two close friends.”
The news of his discharge arrives after the global fight fans had expressed condolences for the champion in the following the heartbreaking incident.
