Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the pair.
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he finally felt ready to share openly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has passed that I can at last put my grief into words," posted Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, commenting that he doesn't recollect "one day without mirth".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
In a separate essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Recently, a Los Angeles judge agreed to bar the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A legal directive placed a security hold on the files to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" pertaining to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the consequence of foul play, with a record citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Following the deaths, public figures offered varying reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the matter, offering controversial remarks that were widely condemned by several individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his voice to the those speaking out last week. Talking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the statements as "disappointing" and remarked they demonstrated a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an associate could have intervened when the decision to comment on the passing was made.
