Miami put up eighty-six opening half points versus the Grizzlies

Miami Heat claimed a decisive 146-114 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in their initial NBA match after guard Rozier was arrested over alleged unlawful sports betting.

Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was also detained as part of a sweeping federal investigation into sports betting. Both men deny the claims.

However, the Heat were not distracted as they put up eighty-six opening half points to be ahead of the Grizzlies by 39 after two quarters, the biggest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37-year history.

Adebayo led the way with 24 scores and later stated Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Adebayo said. "We are with him all the way. He's like family ultimately."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Rozier is a person who is important to everyone. He's had a beneficial influence on our team.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he goes through this."

Portland also secured their first game after the detentions, with Brazil-born Tiago Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and leading the team to a decisive 139-119 victory against the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Chauncey and his coaching style," Splitter said. "We're thinking of him and his family but we have a job to do."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' by Arrests

Speaking about the detentions for the first time, league head Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the past few days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the competition," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was disturbing."

Silver also mentioned an league probe into the player's actions in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he participated for the Charlotte Hornets versus the Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were very transparent regarding it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the league office can't do.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating since then. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an charge.

"Moreover two and a half years later, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in fairness to Rozier.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
